DIY Prep Checklist

DIY Prep Checklist

Prep work sucks. There, it’s been said. Now let’s move on.

DIY Prep Checklist

  1. Read the entire checklist before starting.

  2. Packaging. This is the time to ask yourself a couple of questions about product packaging. Do you need it right away? Does it need to be disinfected? If you answered yes to both questions, it is best to take care of this the day before because your bottles, toggles and containers will need time for the disinfecting solution to dry.

  3. Get yourself together. Wear clothes that you’re willing to get dirty, have latex free gloves readily available and if you have medium to long hair pull it back or throw it in a net.

  4. Clean out your sink and empty your dishwasher. This will make clean up a breeze.

  5. Clean and disinfect any and all work spaces. This includes kitchen tables, counter tops, microwaves and stoves etc.

  6. Review recipe(s). Identify and lay out all of the equipment, tools and utensils you will need to make the product. This includes droppers, spoons, spatulas, whisks, mixing bowls, beakers, measuring cups, measuring spoons, mixers, blenders, stick blenders, molds etc.

  7. Disinfect all utensils and equipment. Isopropyl alcohol 70% or higher is a good option.

  8. Review recipe(s). Identify and pull out all ingredients.

  9. Disinfect prep bowls and containers.

  10. Don some gloves. I prefer latex free.

  11. Measure out all ingredients and place in disinfected containers. (Use discretion where applicable. For example: I do not measure out small quantities of ingredients. If a recipe calls for 10 drops of essential oil I will not measure it out, but if it calls for 10 ml I will measure it out.)
